Network Engineer – Network Services

Functional Title: Senior Sybase DBA/Sybase Replication Server SME

Provided Sybase (ASE), Sybase Replication Server (RSS), DDI (DNS, DHCP, IPAM), and VitalQIP application management and support. Performed software upgrades of key applications and databases. 

·               Authored many OS scripts with embedded T-SQL code and/or database stored procedures that automated system administration tasks.

·               Received many awards and recognition for superior performance and achievements including management of the Sybase Replication Server System and leadership in the BCP program.

·               Led a project for the design, implementation and continued management of a Sybase Replication Server System that provided warm-standby functionality for active and standby Sybase ASE data servers running on UNIX (i.e., Solaris) servers, which ensured real-time data replication with no unscheduled down time, lost or corrupted data.

·               Senior Sybase DBA with responsibility for ASE and Replication Server upgrades, monitoring, tuning, backup/recovery, training, document preparation and providing 100% system availability for production systems with extremely high visibility.

·               Authored and published many Sybase ASE and Replication Server training and procedural documents.

·               Provided ongoing Sybase training and mentoring for a team of Engineers and Analysts.

·               Managed a project that migrated user authentication from two local applications that authenticated via the Sybase database to active directory (i.e., LDAP), using a non-secure port for one and a secure port for the other, which provided greater security and compliance with company standards.

·               Performed an internal audit and discovered that a vendor had over/double billed the company for services rendered and was able to successfully recover approximately $40,000.

·               Served as project lead for a previously unsuccessful Business Continuity Plan (BCP) program for the Sybase and IPAM environments. Led a turn around and made it very successful, earning an On-the-Spot award from the corporate business unit, which resulted in compliance with corporate standards and facilitated the business unit’s ability to recover from any type of disaster or system failure for both the Sybase and IPAM environments. 

·               Helped develop the ‘domain name management’ program by negotiating vendor contracts, authoring and publishing procedural and training documents, and providing training to less senior staff. This project permitted the business unit to successfully manage more than 1400 domain names with global registrars and registries.
